What Should The Jays Do?

I honestly don’t know what I’d do if I ran things. If I ran things I’d know many things I don’t from here.

My usual idea would be to call up guys like Orelves Martinez, Spencer Horwitz, and Addison Barger and let them play. Horwitz would be harder to get in the lineup.

Getting them on the roster would be tough—well, maybe not so tough. Sorry, Daniel. You get your release. Cavan? I am such a fan. You are getting optioned. Ernie, I believe you should be given 500 PA this year, and I shouldn’t give up on your season this early, but this is a special problem, so you are getting optioned, too. Very sorry. I believe you are a major-league player.

Martinez and Barger play every day for at least 20-30 games.

Horwitz will be harder to get into the lineup daily, but Vogelbach isn’t doing the job. Now it is likely Votto will end up getting this spot, and I know Votto is a fan favourite, but I’d much rather see Horwitz up. I see these moves as a long-shot attempt at saving this season but more so as an attempt to see what we have in three prospects. See if these guys can be a part of the team in the long run. See if we can build around them and whoever we decide to keep from the current lineup. Votto won’t be part of the team going beyond this year.

I’m not closing the door on this season, but I’m being real. I want to see who we are going to be in the future.

Beyond that.....sorry John, Don, and Guillermo Martinez (and maybe some of the other hitting coaches). You are gone. I don’t know who is going to be the manager, but I figure that if I were in the spot of deciding this, I would have the succession plan in my head already. And there is no way it is Mattingly.

The GM? I seem to be writing this with the idea that I’m GM, and I’m not firing myself. But yeah, I think I’d move Atkins if I were in power.

Who do I put in? I guess it is between Tony Lacava and James Click. If I’m in the spot of doing these things, I would know them, and I’d have my pick. I’m not sure the best plan is to hire from within, but that’s pretty much where we are. I suppose if it were in my power to do these things, I’d have other names in mind, but I’m sure at all times, a Club President has to know who would be next in line for the job.

Beyond that, in the next month, I’d start listening to trade offers for some of the older players. I’d be hoping that some of those guys build some trade value soon.

Anyway, those are my thoughts.
